Volunteers

Volunteering at The Pencil Box

We greatly appreciate your interest in supporting our mission to provide free school supplies for low income students and their teachers in public schools across Tulsa County. Our volunteers play a vital role in keeping our store running smoothly and ensuring that teachers have the resources they need for their classrooms. If you’re interested in hosting a large group volunteer day for your company or other organization, please reach out directly here and we’d be glad to work with you to schedule!

Here's an overview of what our volunteers do and how you can get involved:

  1. Processing and Organizing Supplies: Volunteers sort, clean, package, and barcode label school supplies. While some light lifting is occasionally required, volunteers are primarily seated while processing supplies.

  2. Restocking Shelves in the Store: As a volunteer, you will be responsible for restocking shelves in our free store. This involves retrieving the needed supplies from our volunteer processing room and arranging them in an organized manner, ensuring that they are readily available for teachers when they visit our store.

  3. Assisting Teachers during Shopping Hours: Volunteers also serve as greeters and provide support to teachers during their shopping visits. This includes checking teachers in when they arrive at the store and helping them find the supplies they need. Additionally, you will assist with checking out teachers, ensuring they have all the supplies they require for their classrooms.

  4. Volunteer Days and Times: The volunteer schedule for processing supplies is Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., except school holidays. Teacher shopping volunteer shifts are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m, except school holidays.

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer at The Pencil Box, please fill out the application form below. Your application will be sent directly to our Program Director, who will review it and contact you regarding the next steps.
